#1 Gus G. – Brand New Revolution
Few musicians have as impressive a CV as Greek metaller Gus G does! He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA in the USA, he was voted by Metal Hammer (UK) magazine Best Shredder of 2011, has played in many other bands over the years as guest guitarist, has released 7 studio albums with Firewind, 2 solo albums, he is widely known as one of the most talented guitarists of his generation, and as if all these were not enough to take our breath away he is also Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist, who replaced Zakk Wylde in 2009. ‘Brand New Revolution’, his second solo offering is a testament of this man’s ceaseless talent and hard work ethic. It is positive and euphoric, with heroic guitars, memorable riffs, enchanting melodies and chant-along choruses as every chorus in every song is strong and catchy!
‘Brand New Revolution’ is comprised of astonishing, life-affirming songs, made to celebrate the glory of music itself! This is exactly that kind of album that will give you goosebumps, make you raise your fist up in the air with a huge grin on your face and sing out loud the choruses with eyes closed! It is an album that you never get bored of listening to, with too many stand-out tracks such as the virtuosic, shredtastic album opener ‘The Quest’, ‘What Lies Below’, ‘We Are One’, ‘Generation G’, ‘The Demon Inside’, the title track and more. The production is fantastic and there is a plethora of talented, well-known guest vocalists: Jeff Scott Soto, Elize Ryd, Jacob Bunton and Mats Leven.
What should be especially noted though, is that ‘Brand New Revolution’ showcases Gus G’s rare talent of being both one of the world’s best guitarists, as well as music composers. This is such a splendidly built Metal album, everything is perfect from start to finish, all the tracks are killer tracks and it’s an album that should be used in the music industry as a yardstick of how solo albums should be done. Hail to Gus G, the Alexander The Great of Heavy Metal music!
